NOTE: I am not a doctor or medical practitioner. The information in this post is from personal experience, and I highly recommend talking with your doctor before taking any medications, even vitamins and supplements.
As someone who lives with ADHD and takes medication to help manage it, I can drink coffee all day and still sleep at night. I don't even drink it for the caffeine really but it's more of a morning tradition or if I'm craving a treat, I'll have a coffee. I recently learned that protein actually helps metabolize ADHD medication better, giving the full benefits. I have never really eaten 'properly' and most definently had not been consuming even half the amount of protein recommended in my daily diet. Thus, I recently started using protein shakes, making my own. The goal of this was, because I've never been a breakfast person (I feel ill if I eat in the morning) that I'd start having a protein shake in the morning to; give me protein and help boost my ADHD medication. However, there was a small snag in that plan and now I have a smoothie in the afternoon or after dinner but I found a way to get my morning protein in.
I was researching protein drinks and powders and saw that Boost makes an unflavored protein powder that you can mix with anything. I was hesitant because I've had a lot more bad protein shakes than good but figured I'd buy it to try it out. My first experiment, adding it to my morning coffee, giving me my coffee fixation while adding some protein to boost my ADHD meds. So that's what I've started to do. I add a couple of scoops and mix it in with a frother and it really doesn't have a taste nor that gritty feeling most powders have. Another bonus, I don't drink nearly half as much coffee as I did before because my first cup of the day is so satisfying. I'm going to mix the protien powder in with my homemade soup next time I make a batch!
