Documentary Review

I just finished watching Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me and I can't even find the words to express my feelings towards it. It was amazing, not only because it touches down on a topic that needs to be talked about more. I'll be honest, I cried a few times while watching it because I can relate, as I myself struggle with Bipolar and major anxiety, and have been called 'crazy' numerous times in my life, this documentary to me, was like confirmation that I'm not crazy and I have nothing to be ashamed of.

In my eyes Selena Gomez is a warrior. I can't even imagine what it must be like struggling through the darkness at times, managing with proper medications and other techniques, all in the spotlight. Mental health is still relatively new, my first diagnosis was at age 15. When I started seeing a psychiatrist at age 19 (20 years ago) I was diagnosed with other mental illnesses, 4 different types of anxiety disorders, in which I never even knew what anxiety was at that time. In the 20 years since then, I have been managing the best I can, as it's a life long 'job'.

When I was diagnosed little was known about mental health and illness, it wasn't something people really talked about back then and even though in present day the knowledge and awareness as well as resources are more advanced, I feel as a society we still have alot to learn. The biggest thing is trying to help others who are fortunate enough that they may not have mental health issues or if so, not as severe, understand or try to understand that it's an illness and there is no cure.

I could go on and on but I don't want to ramble and bore anyone reading this. So, in conclusion, I highly recommend watching Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, on Apple, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
